HLG Associates are helping islanders visit some of Jersey’s most important historic buildings and locations this summer.
The construction industry consultants have donated a batch of free Jersey Heritage passes to Brighter Futures for distribution among families supported by the local charity.
Given its strong relationship to Jersey’s built environment, HLG has always appreciated the importance of preserving and promoting the island’s remarkable range of historical structures. Among the company’s many commissions has been several focused on the repurposing of old buildings for modern use. This includes project managing the recent conversion of former St Martin’s Primary School into a community and commercial centre.
When a recent corporate commitment to Jersey Heritage resulted in 50 free site passes, the company saw an opportunity to extend that appreciation for historic buildings beyond just its own team and into the wider community.
“We were naturally pleased to receive the batch of tickets,” comments HLG Senior Consultant Chris Bester, ‘which allow someone free entry to any Jersey Heritage site. But quickly realised there was an opportunity for their use to benefit as many as possible.
“It’s important for Jersey Heritage that people regularly visit the historic buildings in its care. And important for islanders to experience Jersey’s wonderful history in person. Especially those not ordinarily able to do so. With that in mind, we approached local charity Brighter Futures with a proposal they distribute the free passes among families they work with.”
Brighter Futures supports local parents and carers from across the social spectrum that often feel socially isolated for a variety of reasons. The charity works with them to increase the life chances and opportunities for the family through supporting child development, parent/carer-child relationships, family health and wellbeing.
“We’re delighted with HLG’s decision to donate us the Jersey Heritage free passes,” comments Judith Hanson, Community Engagement Officer at Brighter Futures. “They present a great opportunity for parents and carers we support to enjoy a day out at some of Jersey’s most popular sites and attractions. And without the worry of paying for the family to visit. I know the tickets will be well received and much enjoyed.”
