The Guernsey Competition and Regulatory Authority and the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (the Competition Authorities) have signed a three-year Service Level Agreement with Statistics Jersey to produce a detailed annual statistical report on the Islands’ telecommunications industries.
The report will be based on an annual survey designed jointly by Statistics Jersey and the Competition Authorities and will include an overview of the telecommunications market as well as detailed analysis of specific networks such as fixed line broadband, the mobile market and an overview of off-Island links.
The agreement is part of the Competition Authorities’ commitment to ensuring the telecoms market is properly and fairly regulated and monitored according the policies of the two Island governments.
Duncan Gibaut, Chief Statistician of Statistics Jersey said: “For those companies submitting data, and for all parties involved in decision-making, it is essential that statistical information is seen to be independently produced and reliable. Statistics Jersey is delighted to be assisting the Competition Authorities in achieving these aims in this important sector.”
Michael Byrne, Chief Executive of CICRA said: “Telecoms is one of the most significant markets we are tasked with regulating and we want to ensure the information we gather is robust and entirely independent. This partnership will enable us to present a more accurate picture of the market to key stakeholders including politicians and government officials who have to make policy decisions and to consumers.”
The first report will be published later in the year in autumn.
