Colleagues go the distance in annual ‘Co-op to Co-op walk’ to Help A Jersey Child

Colleagues from The Channel Islands Co-operative Society raised over £500 in the annual ‘Co-op to Co-op walk’ in aid of Help A Jersey Child.

The ‘Co-op to Co-op walk’, which involves walking to every Co-op location on the island, is a challenge that was created 10 years ago by former colleague, Rod Cobon, who wanted to raise money for local charity, Help A Jersey Child. Rod has continued to take part in the challenge with Co-op colleagues even though he has now retired.

“I really enjoyed working at the Co-op, which is why I continue to support its initiatives. As a community retailer, the Society really values doing its part to help local people. I was inspired to take on my own challenge and raise money for a charity that would give back to children in the island. Help A Jersey Child is an excellent charity that does important work. I’m delighted that the ‘Co-op to Co-op walk’ is still going 10 years on and raising funds for such a worthy cause,” said Rod.

The chosen charity, Help A Jersey Child, supports disadvantaged children or young people in Jersey and looks to help suitable local charities that need additional funding for specific projects.

The Chairman of Help A Jersey Child, Robin Rumboll, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Co-op for doing the ‘Co-op-to Co-op walk’ each year in aid of Help A Jersey Child. We deal with highly confidential applications for under privileged children in Jersey. Our aim is to actively seek to assist disadvantaged local children or young people who may not be eligible for support from existing charities or local government support groups. The funds raised will go towards helping families with nursery, play-schemes, uniforms, medical equipment and school trips.”

A total of 15 colleagues from various departments across the Society, including travel, IT, finance and commercial took part in the walk. The team began at En Route St Mary at 7:15am and reached the final checkpoint at Locale Pontac around 5pm. The route is just less than 30 miles.
