CityPay has announced the appointment of Steve Almond as the newest member of its board of directors.
With a distinguished career spanning over three decades in card acceptance strategy, product development, and a proven track record of pioneering payment solutions, Steve (pictured) brings a wealth of experience and innovation to the CityPay team.
Steve Almond is renowned for his strategic vision and execution in the payments sector, having launched several ground-breaking payment solutions that have significantly influenced the industry. His notable achievements include bringing the UK’s first online shopping mall, BarclaySquare, to market in 1995, and launching the UK’s first bank-owned Internet Payment Service Provider service, Barclaycard ePDQ, in 1998. Steve also designed and implemented the UK’s first mobile (SMS) initiated payments solution in 2002 as CEO of TxtOrder plc.
Under his leadership, Barclaycard’s eCommerce business saw substantial growth, and he played a pivotal role in developing Barclaycard’s online and international proposition strategy. His strategic foresight was instrumental in the delivery of Barclaycard’s International Internet Payment Solution, SmartPay, in 2009. Furthermore, as a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and expertise, Steve successfully built a card acceptance Independent Sales Organisation for Payzone UK, dramatically increasing its customer base in a remarkably short period.
