To mark its 100th anniversary year, Jersey Electricity is launching a competition for school children to design a public electric vehicle charger.
A winner being chosen in each parish and their design wrapped on to public charging station.
Launching on World EV Day, 9 September, the competition is open to all children in Years 1 to 3 in the academic year 2024/25. Schools will be contacted and supplied with information and a charger template for the pupils to show off their creativity celebrating the theme of ‘100 years of Jersey Electricity’.
Jersey Electricity’s Evolve public charging network has more than 112 charge points all around the Island, and 12 winners will be chosen and their picture will be applied to one of the public chargers closely located to their school.
On launching the competition, Werner Bornman (pictured), Director of Technology at Jersey Electricity, said: “As JE marks its 100th anniversary, we want to engage with as many Islanders as possible so we hope this Design A Charger competition will spark the imagination of Jersey’s pupils while also introducing them to the concept of sustainable transport, which will become increasingly mainstream to this generation as they grow up. We’re excited to see their designs!”
Budding creatives have until Friday 20 December to perfect their designs with the winners announced on Friday 17 January.
