Corporate teams and individuals are being encouraged to register for the 2020 Hel(l)vetia Challenge which takes place on Thursday, 27 August around Havelet Bay.
The event is a friendly mini triathlon that involves swimming, cycling and running in teams of three or as an individual. It is open to everyone, with no triathlon experience necessary.
Deputy Gavin St Pier and Oceans Seven swimmer Adrian Sarchet have taken on the role of event Ambassadors. Deputy St Pier said: “The Hel(l)vetia Challenge is at the heart of the community and really embodies the ‘Guernsey Together’ ethos which has brought us through the pandemic so successfully so far. The challenge is open to everyone and will raise much-needed funds for local charities which have been adversely affected during lockdown. I would encourage everyone who can to take part”.
Adrian Sarchet has added his support to the event. He recently became the 21st person in the world to complete the Oceans Seven Challenge, he said: “I love this event because it brings the entire community together to have fun and raise much needed funds for Guernsey charities, in one of the most beautiful spots on the Island. I look forward to swimming with as many teams as I can on the day”.
The circuit begins with a 200 meter swim in Havelet Bay, followed by a 2 kilometre cycle up and down the Val des Terres, concluding with a run along South Esplanade and back to Castle Cornet and returning to South Esplanade as many times as your team decides. For the first time, electric bikes will qualify for the cycle.
Individuals and teams can complete one or more discipline.
Paul Annegarn, CEO of Credit Suisse Guernsey, which organises and supports the Challenge, said: “We are delighted this year’s event can go ahead. Guernsey is in a unique position to host an event like this and we intend to make the most of the opportunity. I would encourage all corporations in Guernsey to put forward at least one team to take part. We really want to make this year’s event the best yet and, more importantly, raise much needed funds for the island’s charitable sector”.
The event will take place between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm and you can register by clicking here or contact [email protected].
