The Citywealth International Finance Centre Awards took place on 24th January at the Leonardo Royal Hotel St Paul’s in London, bringing together over 120 of the world’s top wealth advisors and private client experts.
Hosted by BBC presenter Tim Willcox, the event was given a hint of Scottish flavour by a kilted bagpiper in celebration of Burns Night.
The awards were established to highlight the excellence of the advisors and managers in the private wealth sector within the major international finance centres. A total of 36 awards were announced – the winners having been judged by an international panel of highly respected practitioners from all sectors and with experience of working with advisors in all the jurisdictions covered.
The Channel Islands stood out again with the numbers and the excellence of the winners.
Jersey scooped the award for the best International Finance Centre of the Year for the eleventh year, while Guernsey was the runner up.
Claire Machin (pictured), group director and head of wealth at Suntera Global, based in Jersey, was handed over the coveted Editor’s Choice award for overall excellence.
Altogether, seventeen companies based in or with branches in the Channel Islands were recognised with awards – eight winners and nine runners up, while seven individuals were singled out for their excellence.
Money was raised during the evening for the very worthwhile Maggie’s charity that provides care and support for cancer sufferers at their nationwide centres. Rosamund Dean, much respected journalist and spokesperson for the charity who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of forty, delivered an impassioned speech.
The IFC awards, now in their thirteenth year, were created by multi award winning Karen Jones, CEO of Citywealth, who founded the company in 2005.
Karen said: “It is a considerable achievement to win a Citywealth award. Our process of submissions then review by industry peers and the online popular vote has become the gold standard for the wealth industry. It enables charities, UHNW and entrepreneurs to really select the best managers and advisors to take care of their hard earned money. Winners have proven that they can give advice that is favourable to their clients but also in tune with governments and global public thinking.”
