A group of major funding bodies in the Channel Islands have undergone important training from the National Council for Voluntary Organisations to help them monitor the effectiveness of the grants they make.
Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands hosted the training session at its premises on Jersey’s Esplanade in Jersey with its Chair and Executive Director, Katie Le Quesne and Jo Le Poidevin, among those taking part in the course.
It was designers to help funders improve how they assess the outcome of work they fund.
Anthony Dessain from Roy Overland Charitable Trust attended the training session: “We found the day helpful and reassuring. It was a good initiative for Lloyds Bank Foundation to take and to co-ordinate a number of charities.”
The Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands held its annual seminar back in January where there was an overwhelming message from the charities it supported, and from the keynote speaker Sir Tony Hawkhead, that collaboration was vital to success.
As a result, major funders across the islands now meet on a regular basis to discuss action that can be taken to better serve the charitable organisations that they support and, in turn, improve the lives of people and communities, including co-funding projects.
Jo Le Poidevin, Executive Director, Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands said: “It became clear that measuring the impact of our funding in an accurate and efficient manner is something we all could benefit from. Between all of the funding bodies we meet with, we grant millions of pounds to local charities and organisations annually. It is so important to be able to measure the impact and success of that funding and how it affects the local community so we can better support them.”
“Next year we will be hosting an NCVO training session in Guernsey and an additional one specifically for local charities to support them in the monitoring and reporting of their work.”
Alongside the Lloyds Bank Foundation for the Channel Islands, also taking part were the Ann Alice Raynor Charitable Fund, Association of Jersey Charities, Greville Bathe Charitable Fund, Roy Overland Charitable Trust, Jersey Overseas Aid, One Foundation, and Sir James Knott Trust.
