Three representatives from the Channel Islands Domain Registry, including Founding Director, Dr Nigel Roberts have attended the second annual conference of the European Top Level Domain Information Sharing and Analysis Centre.

The conference, which took place in Brussels, which was created in 2023 in order to share best practice and share information with fellow cyber security experts.

Cybersecurity experts from all over Europe, including the UK and Ireland participated in the second annual conference of  European internet security professionals in Brussels.

Under the motto ‘Taking cybersecurity to the top level’, the programme featured an impressive line-up of expert speakers from the cybersecurity realm.

They covered a range of issues including:

  • A hacker who had been able to obtain access to sensitive data by leveraging expiring domain registrations, through
  • The first-hand experiences of a UK security researcher being on the receiving end of misdirected law enforcement raid in response to the NHS ransomware attack
  • Sharing information on security best practices.

The European Top Level Domain Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (European TLD ISAC) is a project of CENTR, (the Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries) which aims to strengthen the security and resilience of  domain registries in Europe through information sharing, collaboration, and promoting best practices. It brings together domain registry operators, security experts, and other stakeholders to share threat intelligence, identify emerging trends, and develop proactive measures to prevent and mitigate cyber-attacks.

Dirk Jumpertz, Security Officer with the European Union’s .EU domain and the Chair of TLD-ISAC said: “The ISAC has expanded to improve the internal capabilities of domain registry operators by sharing expertise and knowledge to create a collective defence against cyberthreats. We are very happy that our colleagues from Jersey and Guernsey are actively participating.”

It was also agreed at the meeting that the operators of Guernsey and Jersey top-level domains of .GG and .JE will now become full members of ISAC.

Dr Nigel Roberts (pictured), Director of ChannelIsles.net added: “The achievements of the ISAC in such a short time are remarkable.  We are pleased to be able to contribute.”
