The National Trust for Jersey has announced that Charles Alluto will be stepping down as Chief Executive Officer in 2024.

Mr Alluto (pictured) has led the organisation for 24 years, during which time he has delivered many significant achievements including the Coastline Campaign, the saving of the Plémont headland and the restorations of 16 New Street and the Foot Buildings.

He said: “The past 24 years have been an amazing experience for me and I will be forever grateful that I was given the opportunity to be part of a team delivering something meaningful and beneficial for our Island. However, after careful reflection, I feel that now is the right time to leave the Trust and explore other opportunities.”

The Trust’s President, Charlie Malet de Carteret, has expressed his gratitude to the departing CEO: “It is with a great deal of sadness that the Trust’s Council has accepted Charles’ resignation. We are indebted to him for his enormous contribution to the Trust over the past 24 years. His passion, commitment and leadership have been inspirational and his achievements in protecting and preserving our natural landscape and historic built environment over the years leave a remarkable legacy. We extend our sincerest thanks to him and our warmest best wishes for his future plans.”

In his parting statement, Mr Alluto added: “At a time when Jersey is in sight of delivering 30 by 30 for both our marine and terrestrial habitats, the Trust should be incredibly proud to have had a role in supporting these conservation goals which will be absolutely crucial for our Island’s health and wellbeing.”

The Trust intends to start the recruitment process of a new CEO in the coming weeks. Mr Alluto has agreed to remain in place until a suitable replacement has been found.
