Caring Cooks of Jersey, a charitable organisation, has relaunched the ‘Food or Fuel’ Campaign Voucher Scheme, set to run from December 2023 until April 2024.
This initiative is vital for aiding Jersey families who face the agonising decision between heating their homes and providing nutritious meals, especially under the rising pressure during the Christmas period.
This past winter, the campaign distributed 870 vouchers, each worth £50, to families across Jersey. With an increasing need, Caring Cooks is determined to surpass this achievement in the coming season to ensure that an even greater number of families receive this crucial support. The vouchers, redeemable at all Coop stores, Jersey Electricity, or Island Energy, offer families flexible solutions to manage their essential needs.
The Jersey Community Foundation and The Association of Jersey Charities have been commended for their ongoing support, fundamental to the scheme’s success and growth. Apex Group and Coop are also acknowledged for their considerable contributions, pivotal in assisting a larger number of families during these trying times.
Yvonne Corbin, CEO of Caring Cooks, highlighted the significance of the campaign: “As we face rising challenges, particularly during the colder months and heightened Christmas period, our ‘Food or Fuel’ Campaign provides critical support to Jersey families. This initiative addresses the dire choice between heating and eating. Our organisation’s commitment to distributing vouchers intends to lessen this burden. Last winter’s success in distributing 870 vouchers has propelled us to set our sights even higher for this year.”
Caring Cooks is eager to expand the reach and deepen the impact of the campaign, responding to the increasing needs of Jersey families. The organisation strives to ensure that no family endures the winter months without adequate food or heating.
The community, businesses, and philanthropists are invited to support this vital campaign. Public contributions can significantly impact the lives of those in need. Working together, it is possible to eliminate the tough decision between food or fuel for Jersey families.
