Local charity Caring Cooks is calling on the Jersey community to help feed children this summer, as it launches its 2025 Holiday Hunger Appeal.
The Spud Truck will be back on the road during the school holidays, serving hot, healthy meals to children who usually receive a free school lunch during term time. Last summer, the programme provided over 4,000 meals across the island. This year, the need is growing and the charity hopes to reach even more families.
Yvonne Corbin, CEO of Caring Cooks, said: “School holidays should be full of fun, not stress. But for lots of families, the extra food costs can be overwhelming. The Spud Truck helps take away some of that pressure and gives children a proper meal when school kitchens are closed.”
As well as lunch, the team provides recipe packs, book swaps and simple activities to make it feel like more than just a meal. The Spud Club creates a relaxed, holiday club feel at no cost to families. With the rising cost of holiday activities, many parents simply can’t afford extras so this programme offers something positive for children to look forward to.
Caring Cooks is aiming to raise £10,000 to run the service over five weeks and is asking local businesses, funders and individuals to get involved. Support can come in many forms – sponsoring a day, funding meals or just helping to spread the word.
“We’ve seen first-hand how much this means to families. If people are in a position to help, we’d love to hear from them,” said Yvonne.
