Founded in Guernsey in 1898, Carey Olsen is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
The original firm was named Carey and served as a trusted legal adviser to a wide range of local clients for over 100 years. During this time the firm developed and expanded by joining forces with other practitioners and at the turn of the last century was known as Carey Langlois, one of Guernsey’s largest law firms.
In 2003 Carey Langlois merged with prominent Jersey law firm Olsens to become Carey Olsen.
Since then, the firm has grown rapidly to become one of the world’s largest offshore law firms. Its network of offices now spans Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Cape Town, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Jersey, London, and Singapore.
Today, Carey Olsen works alongside all of the leading international law firms, accountancy firms and insolvency practitioners, providing advice on a wide range of legal services relating to corporate and finance, trusts and private wealth, investment funds, insolvency, restructuring and dispute resolution.
In celebration of this important milestone, the firm will be hosting a series of events across its international network throughout 2023.
Group managing partner Alex Ohlsson (pictured) said: “It is with great pride that we are celebrating our 125th anniversary this year. Though we are now one of the largest offshore law firms, our heritage shines through as approachability, practicality and client relationships remain at the heart of our business.
“Looking ahead, we have ambitious growth plans and are investing heavily in our people and our key systems, as well as in developing our ESG and Diversity and Inclusion programmes, the latest of which is the launch of the Carey Olsen Women’s Network.
“We are grateful to our clients for their ongoing support and to our staff for their unwavering commitment and determination, without which none of this would have been possible. We look forward to continuing this exciting journey for many years to come.”
