Architectural Technician

Our client is looking for an Architectural Technician to join their team and take responsibility for delivering detailed design work, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring that projects meet all regulatory standards.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of development projects, providing vital support across design, planning, and site management.

What you will do:

  • Liaise and coordinate with other departments, including Engineers, Surveyors, Buyers, and the Construction team, to ensure the smooth progression of development works.
  • Provide general project coordination, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and in compliance with project specifications.
  • Organise and prepare detailed design drawings to Building Regulation, Tender, and Construction status, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
  • Write project and elemental specifications, ensuring clarity and completeness for all stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documents, ensuring all necessary documentation is accurate and ready for issue.
  • Coordinate with contractors on site, ensuring that work is carried out in line with the project requirements.
  • Handle contract administration, managing all aspects of the project from start to finish.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections, ensuring the quality of work meets the agreed specifications and standards.
  • Carry out defects inspections upon completion of works, ensuring that all issues are resolved.
  • Arrange copies of drawings for other departments and consultants, ensuring smooth communication and project progression.
  • Update computer-based drawings, maintaining accurate records and files for easy access and retrieval.
  • Maintain both computer and hard copy files within the approved drawing office structure, ensuring all communications and superseded drawing information is up to date.
  • Assist other members of the Design Department with their day-to-day duties, providing support and sharing expertise.
  • Coordinate with external professional consultants, including Structural Engineers, M&E, and other specialists.
  • Liaise with building control authorities, fire authorities, and other regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all necessary requirements.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current statutory requirements and provide guidance on technical detailing in compliance with these standards.
  • Develop design information to a detailed status, including sections, details, and schedules for construction and ordering purposes, working closely with buyers.
  • Ensure timely preparation and issue of design information to other team members, including Quantity Surveyors, Structural Engineers, and M&E consultants.
  • Offer coaching and guidance to trainees within the department, sharing your expertise and promoting continuous learning.
  • Provide AutoCAD format drawings to assist in the preparation of brochure information and sales literature.

What you will have:

  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to maintain excellent relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and responsibility.
  • Effective organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • In-depth knowledge of current Building Regulations and Standards, with proficiency in 2D AutoCAD, Microsoft Office packages, and Adobe.
  • A flexible attitude towards the variety of responsibilities within the role.
  • High-level IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to produce high-quality written documents.
  • Ideally, experience working on residential developments, including individual houses and large-scale regeneration projects, within the IOM or UK.
  • A strong communicator, self-motivated, confident, and able to work both autonomously and within a team
