Guernsey’s GSPCA is asking islanders to help celebrate its 148th birthday by tagging the charity in photos of their pets in their best virtual party outfits on social media using #GSPCAPartyAnimal.

Manager of Guernsey’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA), Steve Byrne said: “Like many others who had birthdays during lockdown, we didn’t get the party or celebrations we were wishing for. So, to embrace the Guernsey Together spirit and lockdown restrictions, we’re moving our celebrations online and asking local pets and their owners to get involved virtually”.

Using Facebook or Instagram stories, pet owners and animal lovers can edit photos of their animals and virtually dress them up for the party. From hats and sunglasses to balloons, streamers and happy birthday signs, islanders are invited to get creative to celebrate the local charity and become a #GSPCAPartyAnimal.

The campaign aims to raise valuable funds for the GPSCA as part of its emergency appeal. Anyone who takes part is encouraged to nominate friends, family and other animal lovers to join in on the fun and give a small donation to the GSPCA – #CelebrateNominateDonate. The money raised will go towards food, bedding and other vital resources.

“We wanted to do something that would mark our birthday while also raising valuable funds that make it possible for us to continue our essential work. Lockdown has been a particularly challenging time for us and we’re in desperate need of the community’s support, now more than ever.

“Seeing as we’re all locked down at the moment, we thought this is a fun way to get lots of people involved in our birthday celebrations, albeit virtually. We are always so grateful for the support we receive from islanders and we can’t wait to see everyone’s pets ready to party,” added Steve.

How to get involved:

  • Visit the GSPCA’s Facebook or Instagram accounts where guides showing how to create social media stories can be found.
  • Celebrate –Upload a photo of your pet to Facebook or Instagram stories and using the effects get them ready for the party. Tag the GPSCA and use #GSPCAPartyAnimals.
  • Nominate – in your post tag other animal lovers and their pets so they can join the virtual celebration.
  • Donate – if you can, please make a donation to the GSPCA via the charity’s website found here.
