Butterfield has announced its sponsorship of Jersey Bulls Football Club’s first home game in England’s 2019/20 Combined Counties Football League. The division one game kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, 3 August 2019 at Springfield Stadium.
It will be an historic occasion; when Jersey Bulls and Ash United kick off, the most southerly football league match ever played in English football league history will be underway.
Jersey Bulls FC was established in 2018 with a mission to take Island football into the English leagues for the first time. The club helps to raise the profile and prospects of Jersey’s footballers by providing exposure off-island and opportunities to play professionally.
Ian Horswell, Director of Jersey Bulls FC, said: “Our aim was to launch a local football club that Islanders could support in the English league and in cup competitions such as the FA Vase and FA Cup. There are currently five Jersey men playing professional football in England and we would relish the opportunity to give our players the chance to be spotted and realise their true potential by playing at higher levels.
“For each match, the club has to fund the travel costs for the visiting teams, their officials and the match referees, as well as paying for their own travel for away games. The Jersey Bulls’ committee is made up of volunteers who donate their time to help create a club that the Island can be proud of. We’re so grateful to Butterfield for its match day sponsorship which will go towards the flight costs for the visiting side, Ash United,” he added.
Noel McLaughlin, Managing Director at Butterfield Bank (Jersey) Limited, said: “We are delighted to sponsor Jersey Bulls’ first game of their debut season in English football and especially proud to be a part of this momentous occasion. Sport is an integral part of Jersey life; it’s up to all of us to encourage and support our local teams to ensure they continue to prosper. At Butterfield, we are committed to supporting the communities we call home. We wish Jersey Bulls the best of luck in the upcoming match and future success in the league.”
The Combined Counties Football League is a regional men’s football league based in Southern England.
