Business links between Jersey and Kenya are being strengthened as specialist recruiters GR8 is due to become a strategic partner for recruiting Kenyans into the Channel Islands.
Lee Madden, the Chief Executive of GR8 and recently appointed joint Vice President of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, is due to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kenyan government next month. He will also be on a panel discussing the recruitment of qualified Kenyan graduates at a trade mission organised by the British Chamber of Commerce Kenya.
The trade mission is promoting new business partnerships and follows a presentation by Jersey Finance in Nairobi last week. Lee, who was invited by the Kenya High Commission UK, will join experts from the British Council and Kenyan educational institutions to discuss transforming education through technology, inclusion and partnerships.
The agreement with the Kenyan government strengthens a growing business and educational relationship between Jersey and Kenya through engagement with Strathmore University and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, creating a recruitment steam for experienced and qualified accountants, compliance officers and fund administrators into the island’s finance sector.
GR8 started working in Kenya in 2018, building connections between hospitality, health and early years training colleges and employers in those sectors in the Channel Islands.
Lee Madden said: “We have built up strong relationships with education providers in Kenya and the training they deliver is of an extremely high standard. That’s reflected in the quality of the people that we bring to the Channel Islands to work in various industries.
“It’s a great honour to be invited to speak as part of the trade delegation about the ongoing relationships with the UK and Crown Dependencies and to be part of a flourishing trading relationship with Kenya. The Common Travel Area puts us right at the heart of the growing business links with this part of East Africa and I’m pleased that I can represent both GR8 and the Jersey Chamber of Commerce at this important event.”
