Business feedback sought on travel restrictions

The Institute of Directors (IoD), the Guernsey International Business Association (GIBA) and the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce have issued a survey to hear members’ opinions on business travel.

From August 17th, travellers arriving in the Bailiwick will be subject to either a 14-day or 7-day self-isolation period, depending on the status of the country they have travelled from. Business tunnels and an air bridge to the Isle of Man are also in operation.

The business groups hope to understand more about the impact of travel restrictions on businesses in Guernsey and the type of precautions members would support in order to reduce or eliminate the need for self-isolation on arrival in Guernsey.

John Clacy, Chair of the IoD in Guernsey commented: “Whilst it is positive to see the self-isolation period reduced, the current arrangements do not facilitate the type of trips necessary for business development or other business meetings. The need for these is currently limited by many UK and European businesses working from home, but as this changes, the need for business development travel will become more pressing.

“The global nature of Guernsey’s businesses often requires people to travel to the UK-  and elsewhere – to market, network and generally build pipelines of new business. We urge people to complete this short survey so we can share members’ needs as the Civil Contingency Authority develops Phase 5c and builds the resources needed to enable travellers to enter the island with very limited or no self-isolation”.
