The New York Times best-selling author of ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ is to sail to the island this May on Cunard’s flagship ocean liner Queen Mary 2.
Annie Barrows will be a guest speaker during the four-night roundtrip voyage from Southampton to Bruges and Guernsey, and will lecture passengers on her background and experience writing the novel.
The cruise liner’s visit will take place shortly after the 75th celebrations of the liberation of the island from German occupation on 9 May 1945.
Annie Barrow’s novel, ‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’, was started and co-written by her aunt, Mary Ann Shaffer following a visit to the island. Published in 2008, it was adapted for the screen and released as a film in 2018, directed by Mike Newell and starring Lily James.
“We are thrilled to welcome author Annie Barrows onboard Queen Mary 2’s May 20th Bruges and Guernsey voyage,” said Josh Leibowitz, SVP Cunard North America.
“The Liberation Day for Guernsey is a significant anniversary of World War II and our guests will have the opportunity to learn about an important moment in history while sailing to the very site it took place.”
