Members of the public are once again being invited to an ‘Open Day’ on Saturday 27 October 2018 to get a better understanding of the harbours work carried out by Ports of Jersey at Maritime House.
Officer from Jersey Coastguard and Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) along with Marine & Port Operations will be opening their doors between 10am and 12 noon to give visitors the opportunity to visit the operations room and meet the teams responsible for keeping the harbours open 24/7. Mariners are also being encouraged to bring their lifejackets with them during the visit where trained specialists can provide an end of season health check.
On behalf of Ports of Jersey, Duty Specialist Watch Officer, Tim Hilditch, who has organised the Open Day says: “Following a similar Open Day last year, which was so well received we’re pleased to once again open our doors to the public and provide them with an opportunity to get up close to the behind the scenes workings of our operation, which is both varied and at times, challenging. It’s a chance for us to show off our state-of-the art Maritime Operations Centre, which acts as the hub for all our maritime operations as well as the technology available to us to assist in activities such as Search & Rescue as well as processes involved for harbour and vessel movements.”
Entry to the family-friendly event is free and pre-booking is not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times and free light refreshments will also be available. Parking is available at the Waterfront car park.
