A quiz hosted by Bedell Cristin has raised nearly £7,000 for two local worthy causes hoping to bring some extra Christmas cheer to deserving Guernsey people.
Clients of the law firm were invited to Moores Hotel to take part in Bedell’s second curry and quiz night of the year. A team representing Ocorian emerged the winners, with runners up from Equiom. The funds raised during the event were boosted by two generous donations from a private individual and Praxis IFM. Food for Families and Presents for the Elderly were the two initiatives to benefit.
Rachel Copeland, recently awarded a BEM for services to vulnerable families in Guernsey, commented: “We work with Guernsey families at the Bright Beginnings Children Centre to support the development of a secure, loving relationship between child and caregiver. We were able to continue our work throughout lockdown and this included the Food for Families project, in partnership with Les Cotils. Thanks to the amazing amount of money raised at the quiz, we are able to continue to support families over the often difficult Christmas period”.
Donna Edwards, representing Presents for the Elderly, a not for profit organisation, was delighted with the support Bedell has provided. She added: “Presents for the Elderly and Vulnerable’ has been set up to reduce isolation and bring cheer to the lonely, elderly and vulnerable people in our community through the delivery of gifts; in particular those who live alone and receive care from the community nurses (over 485 people). Our aim is to be able to provide enough gifts by 15 December to ensure that every one of this deserving group receives a present”.
Kate Ovenden, Guernsey Managing Partner of Bedell Cristin Guernsey added: “A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped raise funds for such deserving causes. We are particularly grateful to those who made such generous donations to boost our total. Everyone at Bedell is delighted with the result”.
