Indica rum, from the Channel Islands Liquor Company’s (CILC) has been welcomed into Barbados, at the same time as the company launches its new spiced rum onto the market.

The award-winning local rum is now the only spirit from the Channel Islands to be imported into the Caribbean Island, adding to its worldwide distribution list which includes the UK, Sweden and New Zealand.

The new spiced rum flavour, launched last month, sits alongside the original golden Indica rum and can now be found in a number of bars and restaurants across Barbados, further advocating the talent of islanders and the unique flavours that can be harnessed from the Channel Islands.

Luke Wheadon, co-founder of CILC, said: “Barbados is widely considered as the birthplace of rum, so to be invited to sell our products alongside some of the major global players is a huge compliment. Given the overwhelming reception to the Indica golden rum, now felt like the right time to build on this and launch a new flavour to capture the attention of those with a slightly different palette. Our spiced rum promises the same great quality but with a sweet blend of fresh ginger and grains of paradise, giving a rich, complex and delicious taste.”

The pan-island company produces liquor from its distilleries in both Jersey and Guernsey, with the rums being a mix of five aged rums infused with flavours from the Channel Islands and the indica plant to become the first of its kind on market.

Mark Taft, co-founder of  CILC, said: “A lot of our inspiration came from Barbados so it really is fitting to have it as a regular feature on menus there. We spent some time out there in person introducing the rum to bars and restaurants and it was really loved by all.”

CILC’s Indica rum won multiple awards at the World Rum Awards in its first year of its launch. Both varieties of the Indica rum are available across the Channel Islands at all well-known distributors, bars and restaurants as well as at the company’s distillery on South Pier.
