Aztec Group has donated a cash prize to Guernsey Motor Neurone LBG (“GMN”) on behalf of KPMG Partner, Steve Stormonth, who selected GMN as his charity of choice after he won the target golf challenge at Aztec’s annual charity golf event.
Aztec Managing Director Rob Jones commented: “We have been hosting our annual golf day for nearly ten years and we thought it was time for a change on the prizes. Rather than give out the customary golf bag or putter to the winner of the ‘accuracy challenge’, we thought it would be more of a crowd-puller if we offered a nice cheque to a charity of the winner’s choice. Indeed it was, and we are thrilled that Steve has decided to donate to GMN, particularly as I know it’s a cause very close to his heart”.
Mr Stormonth said of his win and decision to donate to the charity: “As a keen golfer, I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Aztec’s annual event and of course was delighted to win the target golf challenge, a donation to my charity of choice. I chose Guernsey Motor Neurone LBG having known great people who have sadly lost their lives to the disease. The support the charity and volunteers provide to those living with the illness and the people in their lives is unfathomable and something which I greatly admire.”
Motor Neurone Disease or MND, is the name given to a group of related diseases that affect the motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord. It is an illness that affects people in different ways and no two people will experience the same symptoms.
The local non-profit charity and its volunteers offer care and support to those on the island living with the effects of the disease, dedicating much of their time to enabling those with MND to continue living independently for as long as possible. This includes lending medical equipment without charge, assisting with the education and training of health and social care professionals and contributing to vital research.
Guernsey Motor Neurone LBG’s representatives, Mary Hodder (Director), Kevin Trebert (Director & Treasurer) and Judy Walker (Publicity Officer) gratefully acknowledged the donation of £1,000 confirming that the funds would be utilised in the purchase of specialised equipment for use by MND clients within the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
