Aurigny completes sale of Embraer E195

Fleet simplification to define Aurigny’s new strategy

Aurigny has sold the Embraer E195 to Azorra, a commercial aircraft lessor that operates from Fort Lauderdale (USA), and Dublin (Republic of Ireland).

The aircraft, which has been in service with Aurigny since 2014, has flown routes to the UK and Europe, completing thousands of hours of flights. The sale is part of Aurigny’s strategy to support the fleet transformation process, transitioning to a turboprop ATR fleet.

Nico Bezuidenhout (pictured), CEO of Aurigny, said: “The Embraer E195 is a very good aircraft that has served islanders and visitors well over the last decade. However, simplifying our fleet is essential for enhancing the sustainability and resilience of Guernsey’s air connectivity. Therefore, the decision has been made to remove the Embraer from Aurigny’s fleet.”

ATR aircraft are designed to be more fuel-efficient at lower altitudes and speeds, making them ideal for shorter flight times. While in service with Aurigny, the Embraer was used at lower altitudes than it was designed for, which prevented it from achieving the optimal altitude for fuel-efficient performance.

Michael Davis, Chief Marketing Officer of Azorra, says: “The E195 continues to be in high demand, and this opportunity to assist Aurigny is complementary to supporting the capacity needs of our existing Embraer customer base.”
