BBC News aired footage of an Aurigny ATR at Gran Canaria airport in the midst of a sandstorm at the weekend, leaving some Channel Island viewers a little confused.
However, the aircraft, registered G-VZON, was not grounded on the Spanish island due to the dust cloud. It was on a scheduled pre-sale maintenance check, having left Guernsey on 21 January 2020.
All of the major maintenance checks on Aurigny’s ATR aircraft are completed by an experienced engineering team at Binter in Gran Canaria.
G-VZON was removed from the airline’s fleet, along with G-COBO and G-HUET, after Aurigny took delivery of its three new ATR 72-600s, G-OATR, G-OGFC and G-ORAI.
G-COBO left the fleet last year and is currently being painted white ahead of its sale back to ATR, and G-HUET left Guernsey two weeks ago and is also in Gran Canaria ahead of its return to the leasing company.
Eagle-eyed viewers were just able to make out the Aurigny ATR in the BBC News footage.
