Channel Eye has joined forces with Royston Guest, leading Business Growth Coach and CEO/Founder of Pathways Global, in our column, ‘Ask the Business Coach’
Working remotely has many benefits from a work-life blend perspective; flexibility, limited work distractions, zero commuting. However, working from home can create feelings of isolation and loneliness, more family distractions, plus the feeling that you’re always ‘on’ as you try to switch roles from work to family within the same environment. How you set yourself up to work from home and how you lead remotely will test your leadership capability.
The big three takeaways!
- Focus on outputs, not inputs
- Switch to outcome leadership
- Know what your high-performance day/week looks like
Episode timestamps
- [1.21] Your measures of success have to switch to focus on outputs, not inputs. For example, focus on what your people deliver, not what time they are logged on or present at their desks.
- [2.40] Identify the outcomes you need your people to deliver at the end of each day/week/month – managing those outcomes, as opposed to the tasks, will help you switch from task leadership to outcome leadership.
- [3.45] Design your high-performance days and weeks with conscious intent; schedule regular breaks, acknowledge the difference of switching from work-life into home-life even if you’re only moving to the next room, know what you want to achieve each day.
