Ashburton Investments will be hosting its third Stock Market Challenge for Jersey schools and colleges on Thursday 15 November 2018 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in St Helier, where teams of students will battle for supremacy in a virtual trading pit.
The simulated academic trading event is designed to give students from across Jersey a first-hand, industry-led insight into the world of investing.
Schools have been invited to select teams of their brightest GSCE and A Level students with an interest in finance, economics and business to participate in the challenge. A total of 18 teams from six schools have already signed up for the event and will work with Ashburton Investments’ expert Investment Managers to see if they can make their portfolio reap the biggest returns. Teachers from participating schools have also been asked to form a team to compete against their students, making for a highly-charged and exciting trading floor!
Tony Wilshin, Managing Director of Ashburton Investments says: “Ashburton Investments is committed to growing the potential of young people on the Island, enabling them to see opportunities open to them and preparing them for bright future careers. Investing for the benefit of future generations is really what Ashburton Investments is all about. We’re delighted to be able to offer students from Jersey schools insight into the dynamic world of investments and to learn from our experts at this exciting event. ”
The winners of last year’s Stock Market Challenge was a team from Victoria College, which hopes to defend its title in 2018. Denise Montgomery,Head of Economics and Business Studies at Victoria College said: “Having put two teams into the Ashburton Stock Market Challenge, I found the students benefited enormously from the experience and enjoyed the game. Some of these students are definitely going into the world of Finance straight after A levels or a degree. I am sure that this competition aided their decisions on this. We are looking forward to defending our trophy with different students this year.”
There is still time to register a school team. Please contact the Ashburton Investments events team on 01534 512203 before student team registration closes on Friday 2 November.
In addition to the academic version of the Stock Market Challenge, Ashburton will also be hosting teams of clients as well as teams from across the Channel Islands trust and advisory industry a later that day.
