Santander International has partnered with ArtHouse Jersey to create an artistic legacy celebrating The British and Irish Lions visit to Jersey this summer.
The commission will involve four major new works of art by local artists highlighting the values of the British and Irish Lions and what their visit meant to the Island.
‘Art of the Pride’ will include a 3-D metal sculpture created by Louise Evans, Johnathan Swift, Joe Evans, and David Miles; life drawings by Eddie Blampied; graffiti murals at the entrance of Jersey Reds by visual artist Ben Robertson (Bokra) and at the Strive Academy by street artist Sami Eldirdiry Osmand (Kumo); and a piece of textile art by Bianca Padidar.
All the works bring the values of the Lions – respect, integrity, friendship, and discipline – to life, creating a memory of the rugby team and their visit to Jersey.
Tom Dingle, Director, ArtHouse Jersey, said: “This is an exciting project for local artists working in different mediums to create a new connection between sport and art. Thanks to the commission from Santander International, our artists are able to develop new, ambitious work that can have a positive impact on the wider Island community.”
James Pountney, CEO, Santander International, said: “It has been an honour to welcome The British and Irish Lions to Jersey this summer and showcase the Island and its fantastic training facilities to a global audience. The art works are designed to celebrate what the visit has meant to the artists and the community and provide a legacy to inspire all of us in our endeavours.”
The British and Irish Lions are in Jersey for training from 13th to – 24th June, ahead of their game against Japan in Scotland on 26th June, and their tour of South Africa later this summer.
Santander International is the official sponsor of The British and Irish Lions Tour and the Castle Lager Lions Series in South Africa.
