Local Law firm Appleby have supported Jersey social enterprise Beresford Street Kitchen to open a café in a second location, at La Hougue Bie, a Jersey Heritage site.
Beresford Street Kitchen is a social enterprise providing education, training and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autism. Appleby have been a long standing supporter of this social enterprise initiative and have previously sponsored an apprentice and hosted events at the venue.
Beresford Street Kitchen made their ‘Christmas Wish list’ appeal last December seeking help to bring their vision of a second site to fruition. Appleby sponsored the purchase of front of house equipment for the La Hougue Bie tea rooms including trays, crockery, cutlery and a Robo Coupe.
The new tea room, which opened on Tuesday 16 June, will provide more opportunities for people with learning difficulties and autism to develop workplace skills in an inclusive and supportive way.
Georgina Dodd, Fundraising Manager at Beresford Street Kitchen commented: “Last December, we issued our “Christmas Wish List” and were so pleased when Appleby offered to sponsor all the front of house equipment plus a Robo Coupe for the kitchen at La Hougue Bie Tea Rooms. It is thanks to companies like Appleby that BSK can continue to expand and in doing so, we are able to offer more places to the fifty people with learning disabilities and autism we have on our waiting list”.
James Gaudin, Managing Partner of Appleby in Jersey is quoted: “Appleby are very passionate about supporting our community partnerships, in order that they can continue to develop the services they offer to islanders. Beresford Street Kitchen is an incredible social enterprise, we wish them the best of luck in their new venture”.
