Law Firm Appleby in Jersey has raised over £1000 for the Red Box Project, a local initiative set up to end period poverty in Jersey.
The Red Box Project Jersey is a community-based, not-for-profit initiative, which aims to support young people throughout their periods by providing Red Boxes filled with free period products to local schools. They are currently supporting 28 schools on island, both primary and secondary schools. They are also in two youth clubs and a few other settings where support has been requested.
Three years ago, Appleby’s Jersey office set up a Female Leaders Network, with the aim of engaging and developing a group of female leaders, who have the power to support the development of women in their workplace. The network is part of Appleby’s commitment to promoting diversity in the workplace and local community and ensuring that diversity remains on the agenda for our business. When the network learned of the Red Box project’s fundraising ambitions, they decided to help.
The team who lead the network hosted a Valentine’s raffle for Jersey colleagues, who purchased tickets online. The winning colleague (Sarah Fraser, shown in main picture) received a chocolate chiffon cake baked by Amy Benest, cocktails mixed by Lynne Capie and flowers courtesy of Gemma Whale as a Valentines weekend treat. The raffle, plus colleague donations, raised £1035 for the Red Box project.
Steffy Bechelet, Co-ordinator from the Red Box Project commented: “A huge thank you to all the team at Appleby for supporting the Red Box Project. The donations will enable us to continue to provide essential period products, free of charge, in local schools and youth clubs. It really is incredible and we are quite overwhelmed with the support”.
Appleby Jersey Managing Partner James Gaudin commented: “The team who lead our Female Leaders Network came up with a fun way to raise both funds for charity and our spirits whilst all of our colleagues were working from home. We were all delighted to support such an important project”.
