Anyone travelling through Jersey Airport will notice changes with contractors now working on site in the arrivals terminal, car park and at the old cargo centre.
It’s all part of the airport’s ambitious plans to redevelop the facility, which will see the part-demolition of the arrivals terminal along with the construction of a new two-storey airside passenger pier.
The café in the arrivals terminal has now closed, and will be replaced by vending machines, while the men’s toilets are also being removed and the ladies’ will become unisex facilities.
If you’re looking to pick up a hire car – operators Europcar, Hertz and Avis will soon be relocating to desks in the departures terminal. However, taxis, coaches and buses will stay in their current location.
Outside, the car park in front of the air traffic control tower is closed and airport visitors will soon see temporary accommodation there for the contractors and project management teams working on the site.
So why all the changes? The Ports of Jersey masterplan will see major work completed at the airport, including a new integrated departures and arrivals facility, relocation of the fire and rescue service building, and construction of a new two-storey passenger pier.
The existing terminal building will be extended with the construction of a mezzanine floor to create a new central security search area and airside departures lounge.
The ground floor will be home to the departures check-in area (concept image).
Access to the mezzanine from the ground floor check-in area will be via lifts, escalators and stairs to the atrium (concept image).
Upstairs, there will be a bright and spacious open plan retail and catering offering with seating directly overlooking the aircraft stands (concept image).
The new airside departures lounge will boast a range of retail and catering offerings (concept images).
The new arrivals facility, including baggage reclaim together with customs and immigration, will be relocated to the existing airside departures lounge (concept image).
