Alderney hopes to increase the number of French visitors to the island with more direct sailings next summer.
The States of Alderney has reached a subsidy deal with French ferry operator Manche Iles Express to increase the number of sailings from Dielette. Rotations will rise from 12 this year to 24 in 2020, which includes 13 direct sailings to Alderney and 11 via Guernsey.
The timings favour day trips, overnight stays and long weekends, according to Visit Alderney, and it is hoped the new services will bring more tourists from France for longer stays.
The Policy and Finance Committee has agreed to pay a ticket shortfall of up to a maximum of £10,000, which will only be paid if there isn’t an average of 180 passengers on every boat.
The Manche Iles timetable will be released early next year.
