Alderney Ferry Services will continue to operate the subsidised service between the Island and Guernsey for the summer following a successful 2023 season.
The Policy & Finance Committee has confirmed the company’s 12-passenger vessel Causeway Explorer will operate two rotations a day under the contract with additional rotations in August to cover Alderney Week.
The ferry carried more than 5,000 passengers between the islands in 2023.
Fares are £54 one-way for adults and £43 one-way per child up to 14 with babies under two travelling free, and while there’s no extra charge for large luggage, dogs and cycles will be £5 one-way.
Although Alderney Ferry Services is already running daily services between the islands, the subsidy period begins on May 1st to cover the May Bank Holidays and continues until September 30th
A second vessel, Sorcerer II, was purchased last year to operate alongside Causeway Explorer including an additional route to Cherbourg to which the subsidy does not apply.
Policy & Finance Chairman Nigel Vooght said: “The service provides a vital connection to visitors travelling from Guernsey to explore Alderney, as well as benefitting islanders hopping to our larger sister island. We wish Alderney Ferry Services every success with the season ahead and look forward to welcoming staycation visitors and those travelling from further afield to enjoy our unique and special island.”
Alderney Ferry Services co-director Charlie Smith said: “Alderney Ferry Services are proud that we can continue to operate this vital sea link again this season.
“Our Guernsey and Alderney route is so important for all our passengers and we are looking forward to another season with Causeway Explorer. We are also pleased we can offer our Alderney-Cherbourg route bringing a new tourism market to our island.”
