Julie-anne Headington, Finance Director at Channel Islands Adjusters, has been named ‘Insurance Woman of the Year (small to medium firms)’ at the national Women in Insurance Awards.
The awards showcase the achievements of women in the general insurance market. They also aim to honour the inspiring accomplishments of women across all sectors of the market and offer a platform for companies shaping the discussion around diversity.
As well as winning ‘Insurance Woman of the Year’, Julie-anne was a finalist for the ‘Role Model of the Year’ Award and was also nominated for ‘Mentor of the Year’. Julie-anne has commenced her third year as the Examinations Committee Chair of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA). As part of her election as a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Julie-anne is also developing the Sustainability in Insurance initiative to ensure sustainability and durability are considered at the heart of the claims settlement process.
At the age of 27 Julie-anne started her studies with the Chartered Insurance Institute, gaining her Diploma in Insurance which led to her promotion to a loss adjuster. Together with her husband Richard, they set up Channel Islands Adjusters Limited in 2004. Julie-anne continued with her studies, attaining her Chartered Loss Adjuster status in 2017 and Chartered Insurance Practitioner in 2019. She is also now a Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and a Fellow of the International Federation of Adjusting Associations.
Julie-anne said: “I’m honoured to have been recognised by the Women in Insurance Awards. I hope that by achieving this award, it will raise the profile of women in both the loss adjusting and general insurance industries.
“My passion for learning has enabled me to progress in the insurance industry, particularly as a loss adjuster where only 8% of Chartered Adjusters are women. To be able to have the courage to achieve a goal, no matter how long it takes or the journey you travel to get there, is so important.
“Everyone should progress on merit alone regardless of age, gender or background. The biggest challenge I have faced is having the self-belief to succeed. You can do it and, if you fail, you would have learnt things along the way.”
CILA’s Executive Director, Malcolm Hyde, said: “Julie-anne is a grounded person with considerable ability. However, the fact that she is so committed to motivating, educating and mentoring others makes her an exceptional person.”
