In an exciting collaboration destined to empower and educate, ABC Jersey has announced its partnership with CoppaFeel! – a dynamic UK charity dedicated to early detection and awareness of breast cancer in young people.

This March, they’re bringing an innovative roadshow to Jersey’s secondary schools, aimed at enlightening students about the critical importance of chest checking and recognising the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.

The highlight of this partnership is a captivating roadshow visiting Jersey’s secondary schools. Led by the CoppaFeel! team and their inspirational volunteers, known affectionately as ‘The Boobettes’, this fun and interactive presentation is designed to make a lasting impact. The Boobettes, volunteers with personal connections to breast cancer, share their stories to inspire and educate their peers on the vital habit of routinely checking their chests. The roadshow has kindly been coordinated by Nina Stier, Assistant Headteacher of Le Rocquier School and funded by ABC Jersey, whose mission is to support Islanders affected by breast cancer and raise awareness within our community.

Rhiannon Murray of CoppaFeel! said: “We’re so excited to be coming to Jersey! Our CoppaFeel! Boobettes are a group of incredible volunteers who have been affected by breast cancer between the ages of 18-35. Their stories inspire others to think differently about their bodies, to get to know their normal now and make checking a lifelong habit, so that they can spot any changes in the future and be aware of the signs and symptoms. The aim of our Jersey Roadshow is to really get this message out amongst Jersey’s young people. We want to encourage regular checking and make them feel empowered to get checked out by a healthcare professional if they notice anything unusual. We have a lot to fit into our trip, but it’s going to have a huge impact and it will undoubtedly save lives.”

Sue Frost, Treasurer of ABC Jersey explained: “It is an absolute delight to have CoppaFeel! and The Boobettes with us for this important awareness drive. Our mission for ABC Jersey is to support and build a brighter community for Islanders affected by breast cancer. As we enter our 25th year, raising awareness of the support available through ABC Jersey is our primary focus for 2024. We wish to reach all individuals that make up the diverse tapestry of our Island, all ages, genders, and backgrounds need to know that they are not alone, that there is support, and that early detection makes such a difference! The CoppaFeel! team bring a bring a fantastic energy and resource, their visit in March will be an exciting way to raise awareness!”
