Another day, another resignation.
Guernsey’s much-maligned Education Committee has lost another member with the announcement that Deputy David De Lisle has resigned, citing differences of opinion within the committee.
It follows the resignation of Deputy Carl Meerveld as vice-president of the committee after it emerged he’d sanctioned a ‘guerilla’ social media campaign promoting one side of an ongoing argument about how many schools the island needs.
The remaining members of the committee, led by president Deputy Paul Le Pelley, were aware of the campaign but argue they had only agreed that it should be looking into rather than given the green light.
Earlier this week, Deputy John Gollop was elected uncontested to the committee on a day that saw further musical chairs within the States of Guernsey.
Pundits predict further changes, and possible complete change, within the Education Committee ahead of next month’s debate in parliament about whether Guernsey needs two or three high schools.
