RBS International has announced a series of new leadership appointments across its jurisdictions.

In January, the bank launched its new vision to ‘become a bank that’s easy to deal with’. To support this, RBS International has reviewed how its business is organised in each jurisdiction and, following a fantastic number of applications for new roles, finalised the leadership teams in each jurisdiction.

Personal, Premier Banking, Business Banking and local real estate, have been combined under a new division called ‘Local Banking’. Funds Banking, services for Financial Corporate Service providers, corporate business and real estate finance, now form a new ‘Institutional Banking’ division. The ‘International Banking’ division, based in Jersey, will continue to look after internationally based customers.

As a result, the following roles have been announced in the Channel Islands:

Paul Brookes has been appointed to the new role of Head of Local Banking, Jersey. Paul has worked for RBS for nearly 30 years in a number of leadership roles across the Bank. Most recently he was Head of Business & Premier Banking in Jersey.

Working alongside Paul will be Seán O’Callaghan, who has been appointed Head of Institutional Banking, Jersey. Seán started his banking career in Ireland with AIB in 2001 and moved to Jersey and joined RBS International in 2005. He joined the Funds Banking team in 2010 and has led the team since 2017.

Additionally, Richard Steel has been appointed Head of International Banking, based in Jersey. Richard has worked in a variety of roles since 2010 and in 2017 assumed responsibility for leading the Bank’s International Personal Banking (IPB) team.

Mat James has been appointed to the role of Head of Markets a specialist role also based in Jersey, Mat has 20 years’ experience working for RBS in a number of business lines, including Structured Finance and Real Estate. Mat has joined RBS International from NatWest Markets where he was responsible for the Corporate Financing and Risk Solutions business.

In Guernsey, Joe Vasey has been appointed to the new post of Head of Local Banking. Joe joined RBS in 2010 and has previously worked in Personal and Business Banking and Corporate and Commercial. He joined RBS International to lead the Bank’s Premier and Business Banking teams in 2017.

Rob Girard has been appointed to the new role of Head of Institutional Banking in Guernsey.  A familiar figure in banking in Guernsey, Rob has 40 years’ experience within the Bank in multiple roles.  Rob has worked in all RBS International’s jurisdictions, as well as in the UK, and on secondment in Frankfurt and Paris. Most recently, Rob was Country Head for Guernsey with regulatory and governance oversight responsibilities, not only for Guernsey, but for the Country Heads in the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, Luxembourg and London. He retains his regulatory and governance role for Guernsey as Island Director, in addition to his role as Head of Institutional Banking.

As part of the re-structure, RBS International has also appointed Neil Walker as Head of Institutional Banking, London. Neil has worked for RBS for 15 years, has extensive experience in Structured Finance business and has led the Portfolio Management business for RBS International in London since 2017.

Commenting on the new structure, Andrew McLaughlin, CEO, RBS International, said: “To truly become a bank that’s easy to deal with, both for our customers and our colleagues, we know we have to make changes to how our business is organised to support this. Congratulations to our new leaders, and those taking on new roles within our business.”
