Jersey’s newest football club has launched a competition to name its mascot, sponsored by Grant Thornton.

The Jersey Bulls competition is targeted at the island’s primary schools. Entries for the ‘Name the Bull’ competition close on 17 July and the names will be shortlisted the following week.

“We have written to all the island’s primary schools, inviting their Key Stage 2 pupils to take part in our ‘ Name the Bull’ competition. One of our aims as a club is to encourage the community of Jersey to become involved and engaged with the Jersey Bulls Football Club from an early stage. We want to encourage and inspire the next generation of young footballers. A fun competition such as this is an ideal way to engage with as many young children as possible in inviting them to join us on our exciting journey and adventure,” said Alan Williams, School Liaison Officer for the Jersey Bulls.

“We hope this initiative will help shape the club’s brand and encourage the children and their families to support and identify with the club and in doing so, help us grow.”

The winner and their school will enjoy a number of special and unique prizes, which include the winner receiving a replica playing kit, the chance to walk out with the mascot at the opening fixture at Springfield Stadium, when the Bull’s name will be finally revealed. The winner will also receive two season tickets and an invitation to enjoy a VIP lunch in the Stadium with sponsors, Grant Thornton.

“Naming the Bull is quite an honour, so we felt the prize should be fitting of this too,” explained Adam Budworth, Managing Director for Grant Thornton. “We worked closely with Ian and the Jersey Bulls committee to agree a series of unique and special prizes for the winner and their school. We look forward to hosting the winner and their parent of choice at our table at the opening fixture when Jersey Bulls play Ash United.”

The school will also reap the rewards of winning this competition. Jersey Bulls has generously agreed to offer 100 child tickets and 25 adult tickets to attend one of the home games and there’s even an invitation for the Bull to visit their school at a date of their choice.

Ian Horswell, Director and Commercial Manager, Jersey Bulls added: “It’s great to see Jersey’s primary schools taking part in the naming competition. Myself and Adam Budworth look forward to shortlisting the entries and choosing the winning name.”
