Surf festival returns to spread more Good Vibrations

The Good Vibrations surf festival is set to make a welcome return to St Ouen’s Bay on 1 June with more events than ever before to encourage people to relax, let loose and have a great time.

Partnering with Mind Jersey the one-day 80’s surf festival looks to encourage more people to get active as a way of managing their own mental well-being. This year the free event will be looking to promote the theme, “its ok not to be ok”, using exercise as an opportunity to open up about mental health issues. The festival will include surf competitions, five-a-side football as well as an opportunity to try out beach volleyball.

Event organiser Jake Powell said: “It’s been unbelievable the support that this event always receives. It has grown every year as more organisations want to be involved and support our cause. While the day does offer fun for all the family it is very much centred around mental wellbeing, either using exercise as a method of destressing or seeing team sport as a safe space to open up to others.

“This is the third year we have held the festival and it has now doubled in size. This year we have included a beach clean and will be trying to ensure that the event is as plastic-free as possible.”

Jersey Sport will be hosting activities on the beach with their inflatable football pitch, there will be target practice with Archery Tag and demonstrations from the Jersey Skateboard Association. The retro fun continues into the evening with the Watersplash hosting an apre-ski theme disco, featuring a Clash Tribute band alongside some top local bands and djs.

James Le Feuvre, Executive Director of Mind Jersey, said: “No matter what age you are, this is a great opportunity to have fun in a relaxed and welcoming environment. It is fantastic to see a mental health festival having a permanent place on our local event calendar and something which Mind Jersey are very proud to support.”
