The Institute of Directors has announced that Lisa Springate, Head of Technical at Jersey Finance, has been selected to be the new Chair of IoD Jersey. Lisa will succeed Chris Clark as Chair at the Annual Members Meeting on 23 May.

Lisa has been a member of the Board of IoD since 2017 and is one of the judges of the IoD Jersey Director of the Year Awards which is due to be held at the Royal Yacht on 17 May.

Lisa is a UK Barrister/Jersey Advocate and Head of the Technical team at Jersey Finance. Her role is to assist in representing the finance industry’s needs and concerns with regard to legislation, regulation and key areas of innovation (such as the International Savings Plans which were introduced in Jersey with effect from January 2019) that can enhance its jurisdictional product and services offering in order to ensure that it is represented to best effect as an international, leading financial centre of excellence.

She works closely with the Financial Services Industry in Jersey, the Government of Jersey and the Jersey Financial Services Commission to ensure effective and proactive consultation and communication is maintained and is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences both within and outside the Island.

Prior to joining Jersey Finance at the end of 2017, Lisa was a partner in the Commercial Litigation department of a local law firm and was an experienced litigator for over 25 years.

In February 2019, she won the gold award at the Citywealth PowerWomen awards in her category ‘Woman of the Year-Government, Regulatory and not for profit Organisations’.

Commenting on her appointment, Lisa said:

“It is a pleasure and privilege to take on this role to represent the interests of our local members, in a rapidly changing business environment and a crucial year ahead.

“I am committed to ensuring the IoD maintains a focus on financial services and key areas of innovation for Jersey which in turn supports the IoD UK’s ‘better business, better economy’ aspirations.

“I wish to continue the good work which has been undertaken by my predecessors to date in making the IoD an inclusive organisation for such a wide cross-section of Jersey’s business community. The IoD in Jersey has a membership of over 600 and represents various industries such as legal, technology, telecommunications, retail, tourism, financial services, health and education and I look forward to working with leaders across all sectors.

“I also wish to engage with our business leaders of tomorrow, to encourage diversity and to ensure that the IoD continues to support local businesses to grow.

“To this end, IoD will be maintaining a busy programme of lunches featuring high profile speakers, as well as staging its Annual Debate and the Jersey Director of the Year Awards. In addition, the IoD will be facilitating professional development for its membership through the Chartered Director course and supporting future leaders by building on the IoD Jersey Work Shadow Scheme.

“In the interim, I would like to thank Chris Clark for his outstanding leadership over the past three years and Kirsten Higgins, who remains Branch Officer, for her very valued contribution. It has been a real pleasure to work with them both and the remainder of the committee.”
