Condor Ferries has created an annual fund worth £15,000 for Channel Islands’ charities and organisations to allow them to continue their community-based work.

The newly set-up Condor Community Fund will offer grants of up to £1,500 to groups, social enterprises and individuals across the islands and is aimed primarily at environmental or sustainable initiatives alongside community-based projects.

The applications process launched yesterday, with successful recipients notified in May.

Paul Luxon, Condor’s CEO, confirmed the new fund is aimed at Channel Islands’ organisations and he hopes to see many applications received for what could become an annual award.

“This is a new venture for us and we are particularly keen to hear from social enterprises, schools, charities, amateur sports clubs and local residents across the islands. We know that many give up their time to develop community activities and we would like to support the work they do in making a real difference, not just now but into the future.”

The process comprises an online submission via the company’s website, followed by an assessment of the suitability of each application based on set criteria. These include sustainability, the local benefit, enjoyment for others and how the work will be continued after completion.

Organisations that can apply for the fund include community groups, environmental projects, unincorporated associations, cooperatives, schools, social enterprises and amateur sports clubs.
