David Ferbrache OBE, an award-winning UK national cybersecurity expert and Chief Technology Officer of Cyber Security at KPMG, along with Bruce Hallas, author, speaker and founder of Marmalade Box, will headline the Annual Guernsey Cyber Security Conference in April.

Public interest in cyber security has never been higher and this inaugural Guernsey conference aims to increase IT security awareness and knowledge for local business leaders, information security experts and directors.

David Ferbrache brings broad cross-sector experience drawn from his ministerial-level government work. Mr Ferbrache was a principal author of the UK’s first national cyber security strategy, and has been involved in establishing most of the UK’s subsequent national cyber security structures and organisations. He led the delivery of the Defence Cyber Security Programme and is a member of the Scottish government’s National Cyber Resilience Leaders Board.

Bruce Hallas will be sharing his six years of research into the human factors relating to cyber security, which culminated in the development and launch of the SABC™ (Security Awareness, Behaviour & Culture) Framework in 2016.

The framework has been implemented in organisations covering 24 countries and in four languages. His research, vision and experience have attracted the attention of many industry stakeholders, including the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) and the SANS Institute.

The event has been organised by the Channel Islands Information Security Forum (CIISF). The organisation is seeking to establish the Channel Islands as centres of excellence in cyber security. As part of its remit, the CIISF provides research and advice to policymakers and public bodies and encourages debate and sharing of best practice on security and privacy issues.

The day-long event will also feature a full line-up of other speakers:

  • James McEwan, Head of Business Systems, Sure International
  • David Cartwright, Senior Consultant, Information Security, Grant Thornton
  • Ricky Magalhaes, Managed Security Services Director, Logicalis
  • Jessica Roland, Managing Partner, Mourant
  • Colin Vaudin, Chief Information Officer, States of Guernsey
  • Ronnie Isherwood, Director & Co-Founder, JE3
  • Arthur Mainja, Chairman, CIISF
  • Paul Dutot, Chief Technology Officer, Defence Logic
  • Oliver Price & Jamie Smith, Board member & UK Head of Cyber Response, S-RM
  • Nichole Culverwell, Director, Black Vanilla

Several topics will be covered throughout the conference, including cyber security considerations in mergers and acquisitions, the impact of a data breach on an organisation’s reputation and incident response best practice.

Organiser and CIISF Chairman, Arthur Mainja says: “We have secured both internationally renowned cyber security thought leaders and local experts for this event and the schedule is comprehensive yet accessible for professionals from all business sectors.”
