Condor’s French sailings hit by second weekend of port strikes

Ferry sailings between the Channel Islands and St Malo have been hit by strike action for a second successive weekend.

This time it’s the port’s stevedore workers who are downing tools.

It means the Friday night and Saturday morning sailings TO St Malo are able to go ahead, but no passengers or vehicles will be allowed to board and sail FROM the French town.

Around 1,000 passengers are affected by the walkout, and have been offered a refund. It’s less than the estimated 3,000 caught up in days of delays last weekend.

Those who’ve opted to continue the sailings to St Malo are being warned that more industrial action later in the week is possible, meaning their return journeys could be hit.

Paul Luxon, Condor’s CEO, said: “We are dismayed that the action taken by the stevedores at short notice is, once again, affecting the travel of our passengers and we share their abject disappointment. Condor is resolved to mitigating, as best it can, the impact this is having on islanders’ travel plans.”

“We are also asking any passenger who choose to travel this weekend to keep a close eye on our website and their mobile phone for updates on any further changes.”

Condor understands the stevedores will allow the Rapide to depart St Malo empty on Saturday morning meaning it can continue an inter-island service as well as a service TO St Malo.
