***UPDATE***

Since publishing the following story, we are delighted to hear all 100 places on the Moonlight Marathon have been filled. They sold out within just four hours. We wish all those taking part, and all those involved with organising the event, every success!

Businesses in Guernsey are throwing their support behind the island’s fourth EPIC Moonlight Marathon.

The non-competitive overnight run, the brainchild of charity This Is EPIC.

It’s not officially a race and is designed to be a non-competitive run, with all those taking part staying together for the whole course. Runners can choose from 5 kilometres, 5 miles, a half marathon or a full marathon distance.

EPIC Challenges co-founder, Philip Smith, said: “We are so excited for the EPIC Moonlight Marathon to return for its fourth year, it is a truly unique experience running at that time of night and we encourage anyone who hasn’t tried it to sign up.”

“Thanks to the continuing support from FCG, all the money raised from this event will directly support two projects implementing more savings and loans groups in Uganda this year and providing two community schools with solar panels. The two schools were funded and started by members of our savings and loans groups in Uganda and the solar panels will allow children to study earlier in the morning and later in the evening.”

The marathon runners will start outside Octopus Bar and Beach restaurant at 2am and will enjoy a sweep of the island in the peace of the night before picking up those running in the half marathon, five mile and five kilometre distances along the way. It all ends back where it began – where breakfast will be served.

FCG chief operating officer, Simon Walker, said: “Supporting an event which encourages individuals from the Guernsey community to push themselves in a physical challenge like this is right up our street. It’s a great way for people to run in a non-competitive atmosphere, in aid of a very well deserving charity that helps so many people.”
