Sure has connected the first two upgraded mobile sites in Guernsey to its new 5G network.
The upgraded sites at Centenary House and the Tennis Centre are the first to be brought into service as part of the next stage of the rollout. Customers in the areas served by the sites will begin to see 5G on compatible devices as testing and optimisation continues.
The work follows upgrades to mobile sites and core network systems, allowing Sure’s teams to test the new network in live conditions before further sites are brought into service.
Over the coming weeks, engineers will continue phased upgrades across Guernsey.
Some customers may experience temporary disruption to mobile services during planned work, which could affect calls, texts or mobile data. Emergency calls will continue to work, while landlines, broadband and WiFi will not be affected.
Customers can follow Sure’s network community page on Facebook for updates on planned works, affected areas and timings.
Alistair Beak (pictured), Group CEO of Sure, said: “This is a meaningful moment in our mobile network transformation. Seeing the first upgraded sites connected in Guernsey shows that the work our teams have been delivering across the business is starting to become visible for customers.
“We recognise that some customers have experienced disruption while this work has been taking place, and we do not take that lightly. Our teams are working carefully through each stage of the rollout so we can deliver the better mobile experience this investment is designed to support.”
