Publication of ‘AI Playbook for Jersey’ aims to prepare Jersey for opportunities and threats of AI

A new ‘AI Playbook for Jersey’ has been published this week.

The Playbook is aimed at aligning key institutions around common aims and coordinated actions to ensure Jersey is sufficiently prepared for the opportunities and threats presented by Artificial Intelligence.

Created through the Jersey Artificial Intelligence (AI) Council and with the support of local stakeholders and off-island experts including Professor Alan Brown and Dame Wendy Hall, the Playbook articulates the need for Jersey to be an intelligent adopter of AI and sets out a framework to help guide the acceleration of responsible AI adoption across Jersey’s economy.

Recognising the island’s unique characteristics and opportunities, the Playbook aims to align organisations around shared goals for AI adoption across all sectors of the economy, with a particular focus on financial services and the public sector – areas considered to offer the most significant opportunities through AI.

It highlights a number of practical tools that organisations across Jersey can implement to improve services and decision-making, guided by a set of principles aimed at:

  • enhancing Jersey’s global competitiveness, in particular in financial services
  • driving productivity and efficiency
  • strengthening regulatory excellence, to help safeguard Jersey’s reputation
  • building a future-ready workforce
  • championing ethical and responsible AI, through strong governance

The publication of the Playbook follows the establishment of the Jersey AI Council in November last year.

Chaired by Digital Jersey, the multi-stakeholder body brings together the expertise of industry, public sector and regulatory bodies to support the effective adoption of AI technologies in Jersey, including the Government of Jersey, IoD, Jersey AI Forum, Jersey Finance, Jersey Financial Services Commission and JOIC.

Commenting on the publication of the AI Playbook for Jersey, Tony Moretta (pictured), CEO, Digital Jersey, said: “This Playbook is a collaborative document, serving as a foundational guide for Jersey’s AI journey, emphasising agility, coordination, and responsible innovation to secure the island’s future prosperity.

“It is not a plan or a strategy – it is a framework to provide organisations with common principles and objectives as they prepare for and explore the opportunities offered through AI and address the challenges it poses. It offers a perspective on how Jersey can responsibly embrace AI as a positive force for the island’s future, because we should be in no doubt – the future will be shaped by AI and we must be prepared for what is coming.”

Professor Alan Brown – co-author of the Playbook and adviser to Digital Jersey – added: “AI represents a significant shift and Jersey needs to be on board with that shift. There will be a lot of opportunity for change over the coming months driven by AI and there will be challenges. That won’t be easy and leaders really need to be asking critical questions of their organisations around how ready they are for change and effective AI implementation. This Playbook is designed to help inform and shape that decision making. If Jersey can get it right, the opportunities for AI to support Jersey’s strategic aims as a thriving business community are considerable.”
