When Jersey’s Harbour Gallery displays new art works, whether paintings, photographs, prints or 3D work, many instantly suggest an idea, a scene or a story, transporting you into another world.
Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham opened the ‘Every picture tells a story’ exhibition, which ran for four weeks, to include the children’s October half-term holiday.
Pat Robson told Channel Eye: “For the last few years, an idea has been steadily growing in my mind for the Harbour Gallery to host an exhibition specifically to encourage writers of all ages to be inspired to write a story to a piece of artwork. With the help of a [Jersey] Government Connect Me grant, this was finally able to happen in October 2025… ‘Every picture tells a story’.”
Sixty four local artists/makers, professionals, up and comers, HMP La Moye, each entered one piece of art work for this exciting exhibition providing an eclectic inspirational mix encouraging stories from age 6 to 80+.
During this time, school parties visited the gallery to view and be inspired to write stories, each receiving their own notebook to enable them to start writing straight away. During that month children could often be seen sitting or lying on the gallery floor totally immersed in words and pictures.
Pat said that it was also very encouraging to see inspirational stories coming in from the adult section too.
“We are very excited that in 2026 when Art in the Frame Foundation Jersey Charity no 21 celebrates its 25th Anniversary, a book will be published with all the winning and runners up stories, together with the artwork which inspired them titled, ‘Every picture tells a story’.”

The ‘Every picture tells a story’, awards were presented on Sunday 14th December by Lucy Cotter, Chair of The Jersey Festival of Words.
