Victoria Park, Guernsey FA, Guernsey FC and Aztech Soccer have teamed up this month to launch a new charity collection scheme, the Victoria Park Food and Kit Bank, aimed at helping the local community and those in need overseas this Christmas.

Launching on Saturday 22nd November and running until Monday 8th December, the food and kit collection scheme will support a hat-trick of worthwhile causes. Working alongside the States of Guernsey, all food donations will be distributed to local families this Christmas, while any boots received will be donated to local schools and clubs. All kit collected during the campaign will benefit Friends of Romania, an overseas charity that distributes humanitarian aid to those in need in the country.

Special donation bins will be placed in the office reception at Victoria Park and by the desk at Aztech Soccer, encouraging all islanders to join the campaign to help make a difference this Christmas.

Guernsey FC has run a similar scheme for several years, spearheaded by Caroline and John Loveless. The hope is that, by joining forces, the football community and local islanders will be able to build on that legacy, reaching more people over the festive period and into the new year.

Nick Graham, Chair of Victoria Park Steering Committee, said: “We’re thrilled to launch the Victoria Park Food and Kit Bank scheme – hopefully this will be the first of many more to come. Football and community sit at the very heart of Victoria Park, so this is a brilliant opportunity to bring everyone together to support those in need both here in Guernsey and further afield.

A States of Guernsey Family Support Services spokesperson said: “While Christmas brings joy to many, it can be a difficult time for families with children and young people facing hardship.

“Your kindness can bring hope and brighten their Christmas as every donation truly makes a difference.”
