Real-world data protection isn’t always straightforward – and the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner wants to learn more about how organisations are handling Islanders’ personal information.

The Island’s data protection regulator has teamed up with the Isle of Man’s data protection regulator to undertake an anonymous survey to explore how they can better support organisations with the real data protection challenges they’re facing – and to help shape future guidance, outreach and support.

The ‘Data Protection in Practice – Insights Survey 2025’ aims to:

  • Understand the practices in place in the areas of data sharing, training, impact assessments, right of access, approach to being a data protection officer and managing data breaches.
  • Inform the future design of tailored guidance and support.
  • Strengthen the overall data protection culture across each island.

Paul Vane (pictured), Jersey Information Commissioner, said: “We want to reassure organisations this survey is anonymous and strongly encourage participants to answer openly and honestly. The survey’s not an audit and it’s not enforcement. It’s a chance for organisations to let us know how they’re handling data protection and where they’re finding it tough. The more accurate the information we receive, the better we can tailor future guidance and practical support to meet the needs of organisations.”
