Mourant is celebrating the appointment of its Jersey Litigation Practice Leader, Stephen Alexander, to the global STEP Council.
Stephen (pictured) will hold the Jersey Council seat for a three-year term, commencing 1 January 2026.
STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) is a global professional body, comprising more than 22,000 lawyers, accountants, financial advisors and other practitioners, who help families plan for their futures. STEP sets professional standards, trains and educates its members, and ensures standards are upheld. Full STEP members, known as TEPs (Trust and Estate Practitioners), are recognised as experts in inheritance and succession planning.
STEP’s Council is elected by members or their representatives from its global Branches and Chapters. Council members are the primary channels for communication and representation between members and STEP’s central governance bodies.
As a Chartered Director (C. Dir.), advocate, and trusts and estate specialist, Stephen regularly advises on a wide range of multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes, with a particular focus on contentious private wealth and trust matters, partnership and investment fund disputes, and corporate liquidations and reorganisations.
Commenting on his appointment, Stephen said: “I’m honoured to be representing the interests of Jersey practitioners on the global STEP Council. STEP plays a vital role in setting industry standards and best practice, and supporting practitioners across the trust and estates profession, and I’m looking forward to contributing to its valuable work over the next three years.”
